?What was the inspiration behind the creation of this book??
Like every American, 9/11 shook Anna Quindlen to the core. Since then she had realized that security and control were merely illusions that Americans hold on to. In addition, an issue that she always thinks about since then is parenting, teaching them about independence, and over-protection. Still, whether parents do it right or provide the right kind of things for their children, something like 9/11 blindsides a family. You can teach your child to drive carefully and responsibly, but that doesn?t matter when they encounter a drunk driver roaring through a stop sign on the road. 9/11 was a wake-up call especially for parents who believed that living a certain way or doing certain things or breastfeeding or buying the safest car means everything will be well and nothing will go wrong. This way of thinking, this illusion, doesn?t make room for the randomness of tragedies and accidents. This is what she wanted to explore in the book. This is the basic inspiration for Every Last One.
There are other themes that were made known in the book. Anna Quindlen has maintained that her themes inadvertently always involved being a woman in America, motherhood, and loss. She felt that the price of freedom for women in America has always been martyrdom in spite of expanded liberties acquired in her lifetime.
Don't miss out! It's highly recommended.
