In July of 1942, Anne Frank, a thirteen-year-old girl, went into hiding from the Nazis during World War II with her family and others in a secret annex above her father's business in Amsterdam. She was one of many Jews who were in danger of being sent to concentration camps, where millions were cruelly treated and killed. During her two years in hiding, Anne wrote a diary that would become her life lifeline and confidante as well as a place to reflect on what was happening in the world. She wrote her final entry on August 1, 1944, only days before everyone in the annex was arrested by the German police. To date, more than thirty million copies of the diary have been published in sixty-five languages. Although Anne perished in a concentration camp, her diary continues to educate people all over the world about the impact of hatred and prejudice on its victims.
