What if Christian thought was thinking in the time just before the second coming of Christ? What if Christianity was residing within the living reality of Christ's horrifying question: When the Son of Man returns, will he find faith on earth? In this time the days must be shortened for the sake of the elect, for even they are subject to the deception of this Luciferian apostasy. Prologue to a Metaphysics of Patmos is a metaphysical-theological thought experiment that projects Christian thought into this future to come. Its answer to the eschatological urgency of our shortened days is a dramatic reduction of Christian metaphysics into a Johannine-inspired christological version of analogy that opens into a metaphysics of trinitarian response. This demands a doing of metaphysics understood as an apocalyptic spiritual practice of active-love and the imitatio Christi, within the daily reality of human violence and its long history. This Prologue is the exciting launch of a triune trilogy. In being, this text and ensuing trilogy is a pressing clarion call beckoning Christian thinkers to embrace the trinitarian task of our present and future, which the author is apocalyptically convinced is the only viable future for Christian thought and praxis.
